Why do I need a pump?

For homeowner projects like surfacing a crawlspace or patching a basement floor, a pump is often essential. But what about outdoor jobs? Ready-mix trucks can leave lasting compression marks on yards, which might not be a concern if the ground is already torn up. Wheelbarrows can work for small jobs but are messy, time-consuming, and can lead to extra costs due to waiting time charges for the concrete truck and lawn repairs.

Consider that an average patio requires 5-16 yards of concrete. Moving one yard with a wheelbarrow takes 9-14 trips, resulting in 45-70 trips for the entire project. This is labor-intensive and costly. Pumping concrete is a cleaner, faster, and more efficient solution, minimizing yard damage and reducing manpower costs.

FAQ by homeowners

How much will this cost?
Average job starts around $695

Does the pump come with an operator?
Yes, operator runs the pump and offers some assistance.

What hose sizes do you carry?
2, 2-½, 3 & 4” diameter lines

How many guys are needed?
Depends on the job size.  Small jobs require 2 and larger require 4-5

Does Wil-Pump need to come out and take a look at the job?
This is rarely needed.

What do I need to do to be prepared for a pump (manpower, tools, bracing)?
This depends very much on the type of job.  Generally two people are needed.

What does the mess and clean up look like?
There is about 1 wheelbarrow of concrete left over.  Pump includes own pressurized water clean-up system.

Where do I get concrete from?
Any local redi-mix company.  Call around for prices, and see our list of suppliers here!

How much time will it take?
Small jobs take about an hour. Most jobs can be completed within the three hour minimum.

What mix should I use?
Small jobs and trench jobs do well with a pea gravel mix.  Larger jobs, some patios and walls over 4’ high generally require a big rock mix.  Pea gravel mixes are easiest for homeowners.  Big rock mixes require big pipes and big men to move them.  Always order a mix suitable for a “line pump.”

Are you insured?
Yes

How much system does the pump come with?
We include 120’ with our price though additional is available.

How high, how deep, how far?
Always best to get as close to the site as possible.  The capabilities of the equipment are beyond the abilities of most homeowners.
